How to Print Legal & Letter Documents

A common issue users face when first implementing DocuTech's products is printing legal-size and letter-size documents with Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. By default Adobe's applications do not adjust for letter and legal document sizes, printing legal-size documents squeezed onto letter-sized paper—which is not compliant with most federal, local, and investor standards for loan documents. Luckily there is an easy answer for this problem by enabling one setting in Acrobat or Adobe Reader.

To ensure you have the proper setting enabled, DocuTech provides a test PDF document with legal-size and letter-size pages. You can download the document at http://knowledgebase.docutechcorp.com/files/PDF_Test_Doc.pdf

To ensure legal and letter documents print correctly:

  1. Open your Adobe application (Acrobat or Reader) by double-clicking the PDF_Test_Doc.pdf file or any other PDF with legal-size and letter-size pages
  2. On the top-menu bar, select File then scroll down to Print...
  3. The Print window opens with options for printing documents
  4. Under the Page Handling section, select the Choose Paper Source by PDF page size check box

Note: Make sure your printer can print letter and legal documents and both paper sizes are loaded in the machine.

  5. Click the OK button

When successfully completed, two pages will print (one legal the other letter) with the top, middle, and bottom of the pages labeled on the document.
